Changes of renal function in the longstanding bed-rest patients

Abstract
It has long been known that there is a diurnal rhythm in. water and electrolyte metabolism of kidney in man. This rhythm could be disturbed by posture, physical activity or sleeping.
To investigate the change of diurnal rhythm of renal function by longstanding bed--rest patients, experiments have been done.
The results obtained were a s follows.
I . Diurnal rhthm of urine volume, GFR, and excretion of sodium and chloride was not changed by longstanding bed-rest.
2. Diunal rhythm of excretion of potassium and phosphate was disappeared by longstanding bed-rest.
3 . Plasma active and inactive renin activities decreased in function of duration of bed-rest. These results suggest that some of the renal tubula- functions could be changed by longstanding bed-rest.
